If a transmission for a car becomes stuck between 1st and 2nd gear the fluid should be changed. Old fluid in a transmission can cause hard shifting and stuck gears.
The real problem is manually shifting from gear to gear with an automatic transmission. If you are referring to the automatic upshift, there may be a problem with the EGR system or vacuum system.
When shifting a manual (or standard) transmission on a vehicle, if you hear excessive knocking noises immediately after shifting, you are probably:1) Shifting into the next highest gear too soon, or2) Shifting into the wrong gear - for example, going from 2nd to 4th gear, or3) Not running the engine fast enough after shifting to the next highest gear, or4) Your engine is out of tune if you know you're doing steps 1,2 and 3 correctly
Most difficult shifting manual transmissions are caused by a clutch that either doesn't fully disengage, is warped or a pilot bushing is damaged.
Chech ALL vacuum hoses. The tranny shifts by monitoring vacuum pressure.
yes it does you don't need to be in 2nd gear anyways in a crown Victoria yes it does you don't need to be in 2nd gear anyways in a crown Victoria yes it does you don't need to be in 2nd gear anyways in a crown Victoria
The first thing I would do is to change the transmission fluid and filter. When these get plugged they can cause all sorts of shifting problems. I hope this helps you. Mark
Inside the transmission. Remove transmission pan and towards the rear of the transmission there are 2 solenoids. The one on drivers side of vehicle is for 1st to second gear shifting. The one on passenger side is for 2nd to 3rd gear shifting.
If your car has a manual transmission, and it over rev's in every other gear as well, than no doubt it is your clutch. Other wise it is your transmission.
A transmission that stumble upon acceleration between 2nd and 3rd gear may need to be flushed. Another possible cause is that the torque converter is locking when shifting between gears.
If its a older trans sometimes the vacuum hose comes off the trans solienoid.
Because you pushed the tow/haul button on the gear shifter. Push it again and see if that fixes the problem
