I don't know if this is the only reason why, or if it is even a real reason why, but I'm going to speak from experience here. One of my cats was pregnant and she had her babies on the living room floor, but before she had her babies she went in circles. I don't know if all cats do that, or if it was just our cat, but that's what I know.

My cat once was behaving like that when I cut off her whiskers on one side (I was six.) If your cat isn't missing whiskers, you should get her checked up by a vet.
