Kenwood car stereos have protect mode and sometimes it gets turned on. If someone wants to turn it off, they need to remove the stereo and unplug different wires to determine which one is causing the protect mode to be on.
go to source change the radio to standby mode.. then hold the menu button then scroll to demo mode.. once its there push the volume knob in until it beeps and says demo off. i had the same exact radio and the same exact problem.
Press the reset button on your car CD player. For example my kenwood would have the reset button located on the facia front.
* Use the SRC button to put the radio into STANDBY mode. Screen should show STANDBY. * Press and hold Menu button for two seconds. * Use the joystick control to scroll up or down until you see DEMO ON. * Press the joystick in for two or three seconds. Screen should show DEMO OFF. The manual says to push the joystick left or right, but that is incorrect.

I have an 1996 Audi Quattro A6 i changed my batteri and my radio went to safe mode. How do i get my radio off safe mode?
You need your operator's folder. In there is a booklet about the radio. it will have a code you need to enter to get the radio out of "safe" mode. the code is unique to each radio and car.
The mode of communications radio equipment deal with is radio frequency communications. Due to the concern of public safety radio communications now send signals digitally.
You need to press the source button (SRC) until you are in the Standby mode. Once you do that, just press and hold the menu button until the menu pops up. Then just cycle through the options until the AUX option comes on.
To set the date, the receiver must be in the "Standby" mode. Sources -> Standby Then the date menu item will appear in the setup menu.
I blew an engine fuse on my Miata and my Kenwood KDC-X859 went into the theft security mode when I reconnected it to power. After a lot of research and trial-n-error I was able to reset the code. I put the entire process and all of the useful links on my blog: http://techbybucky.blogspot.com -Bucky
