Sounds like it may low on fluid and or you transmission need serviced
car will jerk forward and then go in reverse
* cause it needs to be put in drive to go forward
Put it in neutral by moving the gear selector forward one click. Crank the key to start the engine. Put it back into drive. If done correctly this can be achieved without stopping. DO NOT PUT YOUR CAR IN ANY OTHER GEAR THAN NEUTRAL WHILE MOVING.
It could be a cloged tranmision filter. I had the same thing with 92 Stealth and changing the filter fix it. I had the same problem in my 94 lumina. Changing the filter didn't make a difference for me, but it did help a slight bit.
Stop, place foot on brake, place vehicle in Neutral, Push 4wd lever forward, place vehicle in drive.
It is a front wheel drive.
Front-wheel drive.
Front wheel drive.
The vehicle must first be in neutral, starting from all the way forward high range 4 wheel drive will be one position back
I have a 91 also. For 4h i put the tranny in neutral even though you don't have to and then shift the lever to 4h then the tranny back into drive. For me it seems to activate faster if i put the truck in neutral instead of shifting on the fly. For 4L you have to put the tranny in neutral and shift from 2H to 4L quickly without stopping it in neutral otherwise the gears will grind. Once its in 4L you can put the tranny back into drive and your good to go.
'Propel' means 'drive forward', so 'propel forward' means 'drive forward forward'. Better to avoid it!
The shifter. D is for drive which is forward and R is for reverse. N is for neutral. You have to have the breaks pressed down all the way in order to move out of park and into D or R.
