Why does your pet mouse put all his bedding and food and pooh in his water?

I have the same trouble with a pet rat. He does the same thing. I believe what they are doing is attempting to protect their food by hiding it like a squirrel does. I always find bedding, paper, towels and whatever over his food and water. One problem is that whatever is placed in the water is sucked up by the covering and so it leaves no fluid water, just a bunch of damp rags or bedding. I guess you just have to keep after it. It's just one of the responsibilities of being a pet owner. Best wishes! Oh, by the way. I don't think the poop in the water is intentional. It just may be dragged in there by the mouse carrying other items across the water bowl.
