The service engine light came on because the OBD (on board diagnostics) system detects something is wrong. The OBD system has set codes. You need to have the codes read to determine what to do next. Many auto parts stores will read the codes from your vehicle for zip if you purchase the parts necessary to make repairs from them. It may be as simple as a tune up.

On idling when you turn on the lights AC off the rpm starts to sink then rise What could be the problem?

This is very normal. The extra drag on the engine caused by the alternator and the a/c causes the engine to slow. The engine speed is most likely then compensated by the e.c.u to a pre-set value, thus causing the revs to rise.

How do you adjust the idling on a 1990 mercury grand marquis?

The idle can be adjusted at the throttle body via the two adjustment jam nuts on the cable. Be careful not to pull this to tight as the engine will over rev when on cold starts. The oil pressure is zero when the engine is not running. The oil pressure sensor will read the low pressure for a second, when the engine first starts.
