I have changed the starter relay at least 10 times. FinaLLY CHANGED THE STARTER> WORKED FOR AWHILE then the relay started sticking again and burned up another starter. First I thought it was residual magnetism keeping the coil in the relay energized. Then, contacted car quest about possible bad relays. Disconnected all voltage from relay, ignition and battery. The contacts were still in the closed position energizing the starter when positive from the battery was connected to the relay, no voltage from ignition, wire off. I suspect now the starter is pulling so much current it is melting the contacts together . So far I have not came up with a solution. Driving me nuts!!!
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting change. Sounds like you need a professional diagnosis.
under hood right side, follow the pos.batt.cable to it ____________________________________________ Starter Relay Test Place transmission in Park. Apply parking brake. Check for battery voltage between starter relay battery terminal and ground. Connect jumper wire on starter relay between battery and ignition terminals. If engine does not crank, connect a second jumper wire to starter relay between ground terminal and good ground and repeat test. If engine cranks in step 3, transmission linkage is misadjusted or neutral safety switch is defective. If engine does not crank in step 3, starter relay is defective.
The 1991 Ford Explorer air conditioning relay switch can be found on the firewall in the engine compartment. The air conditioning relay switch will be on the drivers side of the firewall.
First You Have To Check The S Terminal On The Starter Or Solenoid To See If Is 12 Volts When You Turn The Switch Into A Runn Position If You Have 12 Volts Then You need To Replace The Starter Motor You Need To Go Under The Truck You Well See The Starter Right Ther Is Realy Symple To Replace Two Or Three Bolts & Two Cables All Depends If Is A V6 Or V8
Check your fuel filter, this may be dirty.
Check the connections to the solenoid and to the starter.
It might be due to a dead battery or to a poor cable connection to the battery.
The starter relay is located on the battery side of the engine compartment on a 2002 F150 pick up truck. It is on the firewall close to the battery.
check your starter or starter relay.
Check the starter and the cable from the starter to the starter relay. Also, the relay itself. Could be any of these.
a soleniod is just one item in a schematic its like a big relay if it needs to be replace its like 8 bucks, if you want the schematic for the whole starter system its basically battery+ to soleniod to starter to battery-
Fusable link? Check at starter solenoid
Make sure the relay is supplying the 12 volts to the starter - if so remove the starter and go get a rebuilt on to replace it or learn how to repair it yourself.
Find the positive battery terminal. Follow the thick cable from that terminal and it will lead to the starter solenoid.
follow the thick positive wire from the battery and you will find a stater at the end of that rainbow
go to a shop and get a quote. every shop is different.
The starter have a bad rep But you can replace the relay and clean the connections but 9 out of 10 times it's the starter itself.
you replace it these are closed just like tin cans .. a double roll seal before 1960 they could be dissembled
