Why does your tach work but not your speedometer on a 92 Jeep Wrangler?

Tach is driven by a motor signal, speedo is from the trans the sensor is bad on the transmission

I just acquired this 1994 jeep wrangler and the speedometer does not work. I understand it does not have a cable, so if it is electric i am lost . Help
Why wont the speedometer work on a 1991 jeep wrangler?
Check the sensor that is attached to the transmission. The other possibility is that the motor inside of the speedometer is broken. That happened to me on my 93 Wrangler. Went to the junkyard and got another instrument cluster.
