He doesn't want to lump an entire religion into the category of radical violent Islam because there are many more peaceful practitioners of the faith than violent ones. Doing so would be the same as condemning Catholicism because of the Inquisition.
Most think that religion is a very small part of what the terror groups put forth. The basis of Islam has been so misconstrued by them to fit their own needs that it can hardly even be called islam any more.
He doesn't defend terrorists but Islam as a religion. He said it isn't fair to identify Islam with Terrorism, but it is hard to convince people when nearly every terrorist in recent history is a radical follower of Islam.
No, Pope Benedict XVI remained a Catholic and has not converted to Islam.
"Pope", means 'father', and usually refers to a Christian leader, not a Muslim one.The (Catholic) bishop of Rome, Pope Francis, and the (Coptic) bishop of Alexandria, Pope Tawadros II, are the most prominent examples. In Sunni Islam, leaders are identified with terms like Imam (worship leader), Mufti (religious legal scholar), Sheikh (tribal chief or respected elder). In Shia Islam: Ayatollah or Hujjat al-Islam are religious leaders/scholars.
There is no worldwide leader of Islam.

Whether publicly or privately, the pope condemns all violence, especially when it occurs in a church.
No. The Crusades were wars fought between Christians and Islam.
It isn't a fact. Benedict is, and always has been, a Catholic.
You say...Priest...It doesnt change...But actully in Italy it would be,POPE
As far as I am aware Islam does not have a single spiritual leader, in the same way that Christianity has the Pope. Until the end of the Ottoman Empire (1918) the sultan of the Ottoman Empire was the de facto spiritual leader of Islam.
You can reach the pope if you are spiritual, but he probably doesnt care
