It might be low on Transmission Fluid. If it's a 1995 automatic, many of them were defective and needed to be replaced.
An idle set too high can cause a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder to run at a high RPM in 5th gear. A bad transmission gasket can also cause this.
put trans in neutral and put 4wheel in gear then go to drive in stop mode only
The most likely cause is a failing shift lock switch in the center console. This switch prevents the gear shift lever from moving until the brake pedal is depressed.
Sounds like a problem with the idler gear in between the reverse gear and the layshaft.
depends is it automatic or manual? if its automatic its more than likely that your transmission isn't shifting into first gear
I own a 2003 Nissan Maxima Se 6spd. To put the car in reverse, you need to pull up a ring underneath the shift ball up which unblocks reverse gear. Then move the shifter all the way to the right and down. It is also the same on a 2002 Maxima Se 6spd. 1 3 5 2 4 6 R
If a 1989 Nissan Sentra clutch pedal quit working and the car is now stuck in reverse, it will need to be towed to a repair shop to fix the clutch. The transmission may also be damaged due to it being stuck in reverse.
You need to lift the collar on the gear stick to engage reverse gear

I am facing the same exact problem with my Nissan Altima 2000. Did you find the solution?
The Nissan Leaf is the fastest car in reverse. For safety purposes, a stock Nissan Leaf is electronically limited in how fast it can go in reverse. With the limit removed, it has gone about 55 miles/hour in reverse and it set the world record for fastest car in reverse. Most cars are physically limited in how fast they can go in reverse by the transmission, as reverse is roughly equivalent to first gear. The Nissan Leaf has no transmission, instead it has a motor that can put out high torque over a wide range of speeds, making a transmission unnecessary.
