I own a 2003 Nissan Maxima Se 6spd. To put the car in reverse, you need to pull up a ring underneath the shift ball up which unblocks reverse gear. Then move the shifter all the way to the right and down. It is also the same on a 2002 Maxima Se 6spd.

Noise from floor on 96 Nissan Maxima could be as a result of poor shifting. This often occurs when you use the wrong gear oil.
Bad transmission? Bad Clutch?
Code P0731 means A/T first gear signal fault
brake/shift interlock switch needs replacing
Sounds like a problem with the idler gear in between the reverse gear and the layshaft.
try pushing the clutch all the way in as far as it can go. and if that doesn't work call your nearest Nissan or auto mechanic.
if is manual transmission you can, by pushing the car down a hill and suddenly pulling the clutch while the car is on 2nd gear
nissan has named this transmission a RE5F22A but it is really a AW 55-50SN which is found in a lot of volvos. These transmissions are very problematic and have all types of issues. The valve bodies on these transmission are known to fail as well as the transmissions themselves. The common sypmtoms are jerking when putting into drive or reverse after the car is warmed up and slipping 2nd to 3rd gear
Yes, it does have reverse gear. However, if it does not work then the most likely cause is that the switch for it is broken. It is a considerable job to get it replaced.
If a 1989 Nissan Sentra clutch pedal quit working and the car is now stuck in reverse, it will need to be towed to a repair shop to fix the clutch. The transmission may also be damaged due to it being stuck in reverse.
I am facing the same exact problem with my Nissan Altima 2000. Did you find the solution?
You need to lift the collar on the gear stick to engage reverse gear
