In short, because they are consumed with not participating in anything that may have originated from any ancient pagan practices. What's interesting to note is the history of the baby shower.
The concept of a baby shower dates back to the Renaissance when childbirth was an almost mystical event. Mothers-to-be would often be surrounded with references to the Annunciation to encourage and celebrate her. Unpublished inventories, diaries, and letters indicate that pregnancy and birth were celebrated with a wide range of birth objects such as wooden trays, bowls, and majolica wares, painting, sculptures, clothing, linens, and food. Painted childbirth trays, in particular, were popular items and were inscribed with wishes for good health and successful childbirth.
This, although it may not be an ancient practice, is just as pagan if not more so than the pagan origin of the birthday.
For Jehovah Witnesses to celebrate one but not the other due to it's pagan origins is just hypocritical at best.

Even shorter, because the Governing Body haven't written a condemnation of baby showers but have with birthdays. If the Governing Body wrote that ''upon prayerful consideration, birthdays are now allowed and baby showers are not,'' then Witnesses around the world would start celebrating birthdays and not condone baby showers.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate most national and religious holidays. However, they annually observe the occasion of Jesus' death, which they call the "Memorial Occasion". On a personal level, many Jehovah's Witnesses do celebrate weddings and wedding anniversaries. They can also enjoy special occasions like weddings, school graduations and baby showers.
Baby showers are a ceremonies. They are because they celebrate a birth of a baby and it is a ceremonies just like weddings and anniversary's
Since this question was placed under the JW category, I suspect that is what you are asking is: May Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate weddings? The answer is, yes, most definitely we DO celebrate weddings, and we also have bridal or wedding showers as well as wedding receptions. We also celebrate the continued success of the marriage through wedding anniversary celebrations. Yes, since marriage was a provision put in place by Jehovah God himself in the Garden of Eden, weddings are very special occasions celebrated by the entire congregation, family, and friends.
We celebrate a new life coming into the world by participating in a "shower", to "shower" the Mama-to-be with gifts for her and her Baby. It helps to reinforce the circle of support that the "fresh family" can count upon.
There, I can't talk for all Jehovah's Witnesses because this would be a personal decision, but I personally would accept a birthday gift. I think it would be rude to say no, when someone has gone out of their way to think of you. However, we do not celebrate birthdays, due to there origions. If you would like to understand more, please check out this website www.watchtower.org. I hope this helps answer your question :-) Take care, Farrah
Jehovah's Witnesses are like anyone else. We enjoy giving and receiving gifts. With that in mind, JW's do not accept or give gifts that are associated with religious or nationalistic holidays, nor do we accept or give birthday gifts. Gifts for wedding, maternity, house warming, or gifts just for the sake of giving are no problem. RELATED QUESTIONDo Jehovah

The only "holiday" that Jehovah's Witnesses observe as a matter of religion is the Memorial of the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus himself instituted this observance in the year 33, and instructed his followers to "Keep doing this in rememberance of me."(Luke 22:19) That is the only holiday that is commanded by Jesus to observe. Not his birth, nor his resurrection, but rather the memorial of his death. We also celebrate wedding anniversaries, graduations, and any other celebrations that are not pagan or nationalistic in origin. ----- But what Jesus was referring to when he said this was the Passover. As Wvafan stated Jesus said to do this in remembrance of me. But Jesus was eating the Passover (Lord's Supper) when he said this. He wanted us to remember Christ's flesh and blood through the bread and wine. Jehovah witnesses don't celebrate any holiday. they do anniversary and engagement and stuff like that but not Easter and Christmas, holloween, valintine stuff like that. hope it answered your question Jehovah's Witnesses do not take part in any holiday or any activities related to the holiday. Jehovah's Witnesses also do not take part in birthday celebrations. That includes attending the party, watching the opening of gifts, buying gifts, or eating the food that was served at the party( they do not eat the food because the food was made for the celebration and there for would be taking part if the food was eaten). On the other hand Jehovah's Witnesses do go to graduations, weddings, and babyshowers. Hope this helps a little. Sinserly, Jehovah's Witnesses
