it will depend on the year of the car mechanical fule pumps turn with the motor electric pumps should pump as soon as you turn the key to the on position just before the starter enguages
Blockage in the fuel line, remove the fuel line at the fuel pump, and use compressed air to blow thru the line from the feed to the fuel filter, if it blows thru then you dont have a blockage, make sure your fuel pump is coming on when you turn on the key, if not check to see if you have 12 volts at the pump when you turn the key on, if not check the fuel pump relay, if you do have 12 volts at the pump when you turn the key on, check the connections on the fuel pump or replace the fuel pump with a new one. make sure to disconnect the battery before removing the fuel pump.
I dont understand, If you can hear it turn on then it must have been off to begin with. The fuel pump will run as long as the key is on, it has to for the engine to operate.
Does it turn over? Does it have spark? Does it have fuel? Does it turn over? Does it have spark? Does it have fuel?
If you hear the fuel pump run that is a good sign it is working however, a fuel pump pressure test would tell you if the pump is meeting the required pressure.
Is the fuel pump actually running. Turn the ignition to the on position without starting the engine and you should hear the pump run for a few seconds. If you do not check the fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay. If they are both good replace the fuel filter as it may be clogged. Lastly, it is possible that new fuel pump is defective. Is the fuel pump actually running. disconect fuel line from the fuel pump and turn the engine over gas should come puking out dont turn for more than a second two person job is easier and safer
yes, the purpose of the relay is to signal the pump to turn on and off, if its not working at all the fuel pump will not turn on.
If you turn on the ignition without starting the engine you should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. This is a good indication the fuel pump is good but not 100% positive. A bad fuel pump can run but not pump fuel. If you hear it for run for a few seconds just replace the fuel filter to make sure it is not clogged. If it still does not pump have a fuel pressure test run to verify the condition of the pump.
A short in the harness to fuel pump relay or fuel pump
If you turn on the ignition key without starting the engine you should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. If you do not check the fuel pump fuse and replace the relay before proceeding. If the fuse is good and the relay is good then you know the pump is more than likely defective.
First make sure the fuse to the fuel pump is good then pull the fuel supply line to the carb and turn the key on and see if fuel pumps out (note: make sure you have a bucket the catch the fuel.) If fuel pumps out, the fuel pump is fine, if not than it may be bad.
although the pump is new the possibility of it being no good, still exist
