The reason females don't have horns (usually) stems from the fact that males need them to fight with other bucks--usually over other mates, but perhaps over territory. In every species of deer I've seen, whitetail, blacktail, sitka, sika, axis, all the variations of mule deer, and red deer, I have never seen a female deer with antlers.
