Illuminati was the name of an organization (1776-1785) founded by Adam Weishaupt, a Bavarian writer and philosopher, to oppose superstition, prejudice, religious influence over public life, abuses of state power, and to support women's education and gender equality. The organization eventually numbered about 2000 members throughout Europe.
One of the goals of the Illuminati was the overthrow of an oppressive monarchy and the control of civil authorities by the Roman Catholic Church. They were very unsuccessful in their endeavor because that monarch, Karl Theodor, Duke of Bavaria and Prince-Elector of the Holy Roman Empire, successfully destroyed the organization and imprisoned their leadership, which ended the existence of the Illuminati.
The only Illuminati that exists today is the invention of writers and bloggers who enjoy feeding the imaginations of paranoid and naive individuals.

∙ 12y agoThe original Order of Illuminati was organized in 1776 in Bavaria to bring together a group of enlightened thinkers. In 1785, Duke Charles Theodore, ruler of Bavaria, outlawed secret organizations, which disbanded the Illuminati.
Any group claiming that name or anyone claiming to 'know' about a group or its members today is either gullible or selling magazines, books, or movies (or 'hits' on their website to show numbers to advertisers).
Today, Illuminati people are fictional characters.

∙ 10y agoBecause people get bored with their mundane little lives. Becuase it is more fun to imaging big, bad, boogey men, who hide under the bed and want to only hurt you than to face reality. Because they are scared that they have no control over their lives, primarily because they do not choose to take control. Because of that last paradigm, they allow themselves to get caught in a trap of perceived vulnerability. People like this need to be protected, primarily from themselves.
