The US has not done ANY of the things alluded to in the question.
However, socialism was more popular in the United States prior to the 1920s because, for the most part, labor unions were illegal and collective bargaining was illegal. In the face of such a strong laissez-faire system, many Americans were polarized towards socialism as an alternative method for gaining their rights. In the 1900s, and 1910s, the Progressive Movement granted many of these requests and, therefore, took much of the wind out of the sails of the socialist movement. Socialism resurfaced in the 1930s as a solution to the Great Depression. With the onset of the Cold War in 1950s, socialism became strongly associated with the Soviet Union and, therefore, was negatively viewed. This negative perception of socialism has endured since the fall of the Soviet Union since cultural attitudes endure longer than the reasons they were developed.
