The electric company probably upgraded your service, but the house hasn't been re-wired to take advantage of it. 60A used to be common, but 100A is much more common now.

How do you check a double 30 amp fuse?

Remove the power then remove the fuse. With an ohmmeter put the leads on both ends and read the meter. If it shows "zero" then the fuse is good and can conduct electricity. If it shows anything else than the fuse is defective and needs to be replaced.

How do you lock a fuse box in a residential home?

Generally the fuse box is housed in the house electrical switch board located on the outer wall of the house. Since the switchboard also houses the supply authority meter to record electrical use, the supply authorith needs access to the meter in the switch board. Accordingly the supply authority will only allow the use of a lock to which they have a master key. Usually the supply authority will supply a lock (At a small cost) with which to lock the switch board

How do you disconnect service from an electric meter box?

You do not remove the electric meter from a house. Ever. You could be electrocuted or have an explosion in front of your face, putting molten metal through you. You must call the power company and they will send a properly trained and properly safety-equipped technician to remove the meter from the house. Even the fire department is no longer authorized to "pull a meter". They would rather have your house burn down than risk the life of a firefighter making an attempt to pull the meter, even with firefighting protective equipment. Do not attempt to remove an electric meter from a house.

Where are fuses found in the house?

== == In most houses, the fuse box is usually located on the wall in the garage or basement. Typically, it's a rectangular gray metal door with switches inside. == == The initial answer is helpful, in that MOST service panels are in the basement or garage. The easiest way to locate your service panel is to go outside and look to see where the electric company provides power to your house. For the sake of simplicity, we will assume a detached single family home. There will be an electric meter [flat faced glass globe]installed in a grey or aluminum metal box. It can be located by following the wires that come in overhead from the power company lines. If your service is underground because you live in a newer housing development, the meter will be on either side of the house, toward the front, or on the front wall. When you locate the meter, the panel will usually be RIGHT behind it in the garage or basement [as suggested earlier]!If your house is built on a poured slab, there may be a second box, a disconnect switch with a breaker or fuse. In this case, the panel for your home could be literally ANYWHERE except the bathroom, depending on how old the house is. Many older homes have an interior disconnect near the meter and a fuse panel at the top of the basement stairs or installed between the basement ceiling joists. As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

How many 100watt 220volts bulbs can be safely used in a circuit with a fuse of 5 ampere rating?

The current (ampere) changes from a high value at switch on to a run current of of approx 0.5 amperes. The fuse blows at switch on if too many lamps are connected. It also depends on the cable used to wire up the lamps and the length of the cable.

What if your battery meter in your car is running low What is the problem?

If the battery meter in the car is running low, you probably have a bad alternator or a shorted cell in the battery. There are other possibilities, but these are the most likely. The regulator fuse could be blown, but that usually means a bad alternator.

Where are the fuse boxes?

Where fuse boxes are found depends on what you are talking about? Is it the fuses in your house? Or is it the fuses found in a vehicle? If it is in your house, the like places are under the stairs (unless you live in a bungalow), or in a cupboard under the stairs, or in the cellar, if you have one? In some cases the fuse box may be in a garage attached to the house. Fuse boxes are more likely to be next to the electricity meter.

What are the names of the two electrical wires going into a house?

The electrical wires entering your home have no names. The complete system is known as an electrical service. This refers to the servicing your home with electrical power that is supplied by an electrical utility company. The power consumption of the home is totaled on the watt meter that is located usually on the side of the home. The utility company sells the power in kw/hours. <<>> If you mean the cable supplying the house, its the supply cable wired in steel wired armour. Inside the house there is a fuse (usually 60A rating) which is where the steel wired armour is connected, from that there are tailings going into the meter and from that there are tailings going from the meter to you're consumer unit (these 2 are called consumer tailings)=this might be you're answer.
