A radio has a receiver and gets your "music" from a transmitter in a radio tower. A CD player reads disks through a laser. The two have nothing in common when it comes to how you get your music.
There could be multiple reasons for this. One possibility is that there might be a problem with the radio's internal components or wiring. Another possibility is that there could be an issue with the antenna, which is needed for radio reception. It would be best to consult a professional technician to diagnose and fix the specific problem.
Read the car manual, in the page were it shows the dashboard fuse panel find the radio fuse pull it out and put it back in with the fuse tool. This resets your radio, it did the trick for me with. Good luck AA My email is Charzar93@aol.com I Got my TB's CD player to work after I unpluged the battery then pluged it back it...try it it works

The first gas turbine in the Gulf started working in the 1970s
Check your fuses... Also check your wiring connections... Exc.
If the radio is not working on a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport it might be a blown fuse. Try the CD player to see if that works. If the CD player works then it might be an antenna problem.
Radio is free, easy to use, uses low energy, works almost everywhere. Even tho it's old, it's still working and it's free entertainment.
How ic 741 works?
If the dashboard dimmer switch works with the other dash lights, the fault is in the radio unit itself.
If the radio fuse is fine and the speakers still do not work, perhaps the speakers are wired up wrong. Every speaker has an input and output wire. The wires may have been crossed or they are not connected to the radio. If the CD player works, but the radio will not, then the radio itself is bad.

The circuits have nothing in common. The dome light works whether or not the key is on, the radio only works with the key on.
The antenna is probably not connected
its bad you have to change, or firts put a CD cleans. if donts is better buy as new radio
if the radio display is compromised.... the radio is toast. look for display abnormalities.... that's the sign. never replace w/ factory... 2x the price 1/2 the quality If you aren't receiving any "radio" signals it could mean that the antenna wire in the back of the radio unit is either loose, cut/broken, or has a short somewhere. You may also want to check the radio fuse to rule that out as well, but my guess is the antenna lead.
I have the same problem, except I have a cassette player and not a CD player. I believe the answer is the antenna has come loose from the radio but I do not know how to check it.
