It's extremely dangerous (look up Hindenburg) and inefficient.

Free hydrogen does not occur naturally on earth, and thus it must be generated by electrolysis of water or another method. In practice, production of hydrogen from water requires more energy input than is released when the hydrogen is used as fuel. Currently the majority of hydrogen produced on earth comes from fossil fuels.

  • hydrogen is not freely available
  • hydrogen is a gas at most temperatures, and particularly difficult to handle
  • hydrogen is more dangerous than most substances; equipment owned by consumers would have to be checked periodically
  • hydrogen production requires resources, and ultimately leads to energy loss.

Advantages are very low emissions. Disadvantage is rarity of hydrogen fuel stations.

Why liquid hydrogen cannot be used as a fuel?

Liquid hydrogen IS used as a fuel. It's used in rockets - and some cars.

Why do you not use hydrogen as a fuel in vehicles?

Hydrogen is a gas and would have to be stored under high pressure in a car to be used as a fuel. In the event of a crash with a car containing a cylinder of pressurized hydrogen the cylinder could rupture and any sort of ignition would cause the very flammable hydrogen to catch resulting in an explosion. A cylinder containing hydrogen in a car is a potetnial bomb. This is why the use of hydrogen is still mostly unseen in the automotive industry

What are some usages for hydrogen?

Hydrogen can be used as fuel.

Why won't an onboard hydrogen generator improve your car's fuel economy?

A hydrogen generator cannot be used to improve a car's fuel economy, because there isn't enough hydrogen available in the generator. That is why it won't work. It takes more energy to split hydrogen and oxygen out of water than you get by burning them. Too much energy is lost to heat.

How does a fuel cell power a car?

it squirts hydrogen throgh a fuel cell to make electricity to power the car

Can you fuel your car with dirt and water?

No, there is no combustible substance there. However some car companies have concept vehicles that use hydrogen as a fuel; Hydrogen is a gaseous mix of water and oxygen.

How do hydrogen cars work?

The success of the hydrogen car is because the the hydrogen fuel cell. This cell converts hydrogen into electricity and powers the car and the only byproduct is heat and water.

Could a car run on hydrogen?

no because it needs fuel and hydrogen does not have everything in the combustion triangle

Is hydogen a fuel?

yes hydrogen is a fuel because I'm making a car that runs in hydrogen fuel.hydogen fuel is from distilled water then the hydoen is separated from the water.then there you go,hydogen fuel.

Why hydrogen is used as fuel?

because it is

How are hydrogen cars powered?

Generally, a Hydrogen powered car runs by using hydrogen and oxygen to create electricity in a fuel cell, which is then used to power an electric traction motor that runs the car. Direct ignition-engines are more difficult and dangerous to 'run'.
