But we are sometimes afraid more of messing up or embarrassing ourselves in front of our family because they actually know us and therefore, can judge us. We don't want to disappoint them or be ridiculed by them. When we are around strangers, or friends (who we are regularly just silly with), we don't care so much about the results of our confidence.
