This results in a greater chance of genetic diseases being passed on. It also means that very little new genetic material is introduced into the gene pool, which means that most animals will have similar genes. When this happens, a new strain of disease could easily wipe out the entire farm as there is little variation between species.This also applies to plants.Another Opinion:Actually there's a few holes in the above answer, especially the second paragraph. Selective breeding is not just about line-breeding or inbreeding. Selective breeding is about selecting and breeding those animals that are best suited to meet the standards set by a producer. The animals that are not ideal for the goals and objectives that the producer has in mind, which are called inferior livestock, are simply culled from the herd or flock.Inbreeding or linebreeding is used as a means of selective breeding, but only has a means to purify a particular breed, to allow genetic abnormalities to raise their ugly heads in order to see which animals are carriers of these genetic diseases and whether they should be culled or not. Sure inbreeding could cause animals to have a poorer immune system, but that's only if a producer gets really careless with the inbreeding program and has no herd health or biosecurity program to prevent this from happening.So yes, selective breeding does benefit producers but only if it's used with care and a bit of common sense.

The results are the same as in a COI of 25%, which is too high. Inbreeding depression can be an issue in chicken inbreeding, and egg production may be stunted if the COI passes a desired mark, such a 6.25%. Inbreeding Depression may also cause Chickens to pluck their own feathers, resulting in a dang ugly chicken.
