Stepping over the Prime Meridian, (or the anti-meridian) an imaginary line, would take you from east to west. The distance is actually infinitesimally small.
250 miles taking this route:Take I-55 SOUTH, from Madison, and thru Jackson, to I-20 EAST to MERIDIAN at EXIT 94.Take I-20 EAST to Birmingham.
The longitude of a point on earth is the angle, east or west, between that point and a certain reference line on the earth. If you take a globe or a map and draw a line through all the points that have exactly the same longitude, the line you get is the meridian of that longitude. The reference line is the meridian of zero longitude, called the "Prime Meridian". On that line are all the points on earth that have zero longitude. The line joins the north and south Poles, and passes through the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, a suburb of London.

As India has chosen 82 and a half degree longitude as the standard meridian of India hence, the time at each state is same although the sun rises differently. Let's take Russia, it has no standard meridian for the whole country so people find it difficut beacause when a person moves from one stateto the other he/she always has to adgust the time. Hope it's useful.

East is a relative perspective, all countries have countries to the east of them! because the Earth is a globe! However, if you take a typical European view of a representational map of the world which would place Europe and Africa in the middle - ie centering the Greenwich meridian, then the "eastern" countries would be those near Japan and the "western" countries would be the continents of America.
To travel from Jackson, Mississippi, to Montgomery, Alabama, you would generally head east. Specifically, you would take Interstate 20 east from Jackson to Meridian, Mississippi, and then continue on Interstate 85 east towards Montgomery, Alabama. This route would take you in the direction of the southeast.

You need either a globe, or a map that shows the north and south poles. Take a thin rubber band and cut it, to make a thin elastic 'string'. On the map or globe, stretch it between the north and south poles, making sure that it passes just barely to the right (east) of London, England, and also just barely to the right of Accra, Ghana. Have your assistant hold the rubber band in place, while you gently and carefully draw a light pencil line along it, without moving it out of place. The pencil line very nearly marks the Prime Meridian on the map or globe.
Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Chad, Sudan, Niger, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, Zambia, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Madagascar, Comoros, Swaziland, and South Africa are all east of the Prime Meridian. All of the others can also be reached by traveling in an easterly direction from the Prime Meridian, though for a much longer time than any of those listed.
