Why is Abraham Lincoln's hair parted on the left in The Lincoln Memorial and on the right on the 5 bill?

As I understand it, Lincoln was having several photographs made in a studio, in several different poses, and an assistant to the photographer mistakenly combed/recombed Lincoln's hair with the part on the right, rather than on the left, as he normally wore it.
As luck would have it, the artist who created the portrait for the Lincoln penny, in 1909, Victor David Brenner, used the photograph that had the part on the wrong side. (I believe I read this in Carl Sandburg's biography of Lincoln, though I would not swear to it...) Apparently, whoever designed the five dollar bill messed up...
