DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It's important because it is essentially the biological map that tells our body all it needs to know about everything, from what we look like to basic functions like breathing and eating. It is made up of four nucleotide bases called Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, and Thymine. They are represented with the letters A, D, C, and T. DNA is in a double helix shape that almost looks like a winding staircase with two strands on either side that twist around one another and with the bases forming something that looks like rungs on a ladder in between them. The bases attach to each other in pairs. Adenine always attaches to Thymine and Guanine alwaysattaches to Cytosine. The order in which these bases are in, is what defines who and what we are.
