Answer 1

Muslims live in Jerusalem even before the existance of Israel. They are there as there is in Jerusalem AlMasjid AlAqsa (or AlAqsa Mosque) that is considered the third holy mosque in Islam history.

Answer 2

Muslims live in Jerusalem because they were historic residents of the city. Jerusalem was under the control of various Islamic Empires continuously from 634 C.E. to 1099 C.E. and again continuously from 1187 C.E. to 1919 C.E. As a result many people indigenous to the city converted to Islam and additionally, some Muslims from other areas moved to the area during those centuries.

The story was as follows.

In the Sura 17 of the Quran, Muhammad described the journey he, supposedly , made in his dream at night on the back of the magic horse AlBuraq from the "Sacred Mosque" to the furthest mosque ("the furthest " in Arabic is "AlAqsa"). Where this "the furthest mosque" was - remained a secret between Allah and His messenger , but became the true gold mine for the islamic apologists who got the chance to place "the furthest mosque" any place they wished as Islam was conquering new lands.

When Muslims conquered Palestine, there was not a single mosque or any Islamic place of worship there. For a normal man, that would be enough reason to make a verdict that "the furthest mosque" is, evidently, NOT in Palestine. But Muslims have very few in common with the normal logic, so their reaction to the news that in Palestine there was not any islamic place of worship was: There isn´t any? It means nothing, there will be! A church called the Church of Saint Mary of Justinian stood on the Temple Mount? It means nothing, all the same it´s "the farthest place of worship in Islam"! So, the Christian church built on the remnants of the Jewish Temple was in 709 converted into the "Masjid AlAqsa" and at that moment played the role of "the furthest mosque"

The idea was simply brilliant! As the word "masjid" means not only a mosque but " a place of worship", it means that Muslims , if tomorrow they conquer the North Pole, will just have to place there some "Islamic place of worship", declare that this is that same "furthest place of worship" Muhammad saw in his dream - and claim the North Pole as the "land sacred to all Muslims".

To the honour of the many Islamic scholars, they understood that it was nonsense.

As late as the 14th century, Islamic scholar Taqi al-Din Ibn Taymiyya, whose writings influenced all the Sunni branch of Islam, ruled that sacred Islamic sites are to be found only in the Arabian Peninsula and that "in Jerusalem, there is not a place one calls sacred, and the same holds true for the tombs of Hebron." This ruling remained valid until the end of the XIXth century, and if you look at the photos of the AlAqsa Mosque made at the beginning of the XXth century, you will see how Muslims treated "the third holy place of islam". (See the Related Link below.)

A guide to the Temple Mount by the Supreme Muslim Council in Jerusalem published in 1925 listed the Mount as Jewish and as the site of Solomon's Temple. The Temple Institute acquired a copy of the official 1925 "Guide Book to Al-Haram Al-Sharif," which states on page 4, "Its identity with the site of Solomon's Temple is beyond dispute. This, too, is the spot, according to universal belief, on which 'David built there an altar unto the Lord.'"

"The farthest mosque of Islam" became associated with Jerusalem only some 100 years ago, and the main merit in this fraud belongs to the close Hitler´s friend, famous Nazi and Yasser Arafat´s uncle, muftiy of Jerusalem Haj Amin al Husseini.

Jerusalem is the city of many of the Prophets of God - who also taught the Oneness of God, as did Muhammad.

Muhammad traveled to Jerusalem from Mecca in one night. This is in fulfillment of the Prophecy of Habbakuk, in The Bible. That the "praised one" who would bring the final Law of God (called 'Shalamah' in the Bible - 'Islam' in Arabic) would "come to the Temple suddenly".

Another connection to Jerusalem is found in the Song of Solomon. It speaks of a person who is the beloved of Jerusalem: "Mahamodim". Muhammad.

The Bible is filled with references to Muhammad. Just do a Google search for "Muhammad in the Bible" and you will see.

I also suggest you get a translation of the Qur'an and read it.

Jerujsalem is the holy city for Muslims it should be handed over to the Muslims?

No, I believe that it should belong to Israel. It is one of the Muslims holy cities but not the holiest, it is somewhere around their third holiest city, while in Judaism, it is by far the holiest city.Plus the Jews were there 3,000 to 2,000 years before the Muslims. Also, the Israelis are the U.S.A's only true Middle-Eastern ally. If the Muslims controlled Jerusalem, the terrorists would become stronger while Israel would grow weaker. If the Muslims owned Jerusalem the terrorists would have free movement within the city, and since the terrorists want us Americans dead that would be bad.

Why did Saladin seize Christianity in Jerusalem?

The question does not make much sense. Christianity is a religion; it cannot be seized. If the question is trying to ask why Saladin seized Jerusalem from the Christians, it was because the city had been under Islamic control for over 300 years and many Muslims believed that they had the right to govern it as they had for centuries.
