Mars, the forth planet, has the volcano Olympus Mons. This is the largest volcano or indeed mountain in our solar system.
Olympus Mons was formally discovered when probes first flew to Mars but astronomers on Earth knew the feature due to the way it reflected light. They originally named it Olympus Nix (snow) but suspected that it may well have been a mountain.
Mount Olympus (as its name translates to in English) is nearly 17miles high. This makes it 2 and a half times the size of Mauna Kea but 3 times the size of Everest (Mauna Key is the tallest mountain on Earth. Everest is the highest mountain).
Olympus Mons was formed by slow volcanic action over many, many years. As there are no tectonic plates on Mars any weak spots in the crust remain in the same place allowing the formation of enormous volcanic mountains.
Olympus is the same type of volcano as Mauna Key.
Due to the sheer vastness of Olympus Mons you would be unable to see the top of it whilst climbing the mountain nor from a distance. If you were to stand on the top of the mountain you would be unable to see the bottom because it is so vast that it would continue beyond the horizon.
1. higher eruption rates and lower surface gravity on Mars
2. Mars lacks mobile tectonic plates which means crust of Mars remained fixed on a hotspot
Its the highest mountain in our solar system. Taller than Everest on a planet half the size.
If scaled to earth sizes it would reach the edge of our atmosphere.
There is a volcano on Mars called Olympus Mons (in Latin which means Mount Olympus)and it is also the largest volcano in the solar system that we know. There is another volcano on Mars called Tharsis,it is a huge bulge on the Martian surface which is 4000km across and 10 km high.
Olympus Mons is the highest point in the universe and is located on Mars
Olympus Mons (Latin for Mount Olympus) is a large volcanic mountain on the planet Mars.
Olympus mons is the same shade of red as the natural colour of Mars. Olympus mons is on the eastern near side. And is not a very active volcano at all. NASA are prosuming a mission to mars so we'll find out then. Olympus mons is a bump in the ground looking at mars from a telescope but in the real live Olympus mons it is a non-acting volcano. Olympus mons has a cliff beside it and that is also red like Olympus mons. NASA are making research so hold on and blast off...
No effect! Olympus Mons is on Mars! Mars is empty.
Olympus Mons is a gigantic volcano on Mars.

Olympus Mons is a volcano on Mars and is also the largest volcano in our solar system
Olympus Mons was caused by the shrinking and growing again of mars
No effect! Olympus Mons is on Mars! Mars is empty.
It wasn't a person that discovered Olympus Mons. When Mariner 9 visited Mars in 1971, it sent back pictures of huge volcanoes and canyons. It was Mariner 9 that discovered Olympus Mons.
Olympus Mons is a shield volcano on Mars; the largest in our solar system.
It's a volcano (extinct probably) on the planet Mars. It's famous as the highest mountain in the Solar System.
No. Olympus Mons is on Mars. An eruption there would never affect Earth.
