Unable to believe a monk could use a gun, they laughed at him, and Gabriel pointing the gun at a lizard some distance away, shot it. This so shocked the band of robbers that they all - 23 or so, left the village in peace. gabriel is therefore credited with saving the village - his uniqueness being found in that the 'gun lobby' wish to have him made the patron saint of gun holders - which the Passionist Order opposses and the church declines to grant.
