Gabriel Possenti lived in the 19th century in Italy and became a Passionist religious brother. Italy was then in the process of being unified, and in a state of civil disorder, with bands of essentially bandits taking what they wanted from who thery wished. Gabriel encountered a girl about to be raped by one such individual, managed to take his gun and demanded he leave the girl alone; another of his band came up loaded with pillaged goods, and gabriel pointed the gun at him, demanding he leave the property there. Unable to believe a monk could use a gun, they laughed at him, and Gabriel pointing the gun at a lizard some distance away, shot it. This so shocked the band of robbers that they all - 23 or so, left the village in peace. gabriel is therefore credited with saving the village - his uniqueness being found in that the 'gun lobby' wish to have him made the patron saint of gun holders - which the Passionist Order opposses and the church declines to grant.
