The National Stauary Hall, located in the Capital Building where the House of Representatives used to meet, is called a whisper chamber because of its elliptical shape.

When someone is whispering at on of the foci's of the room, a person near the other foci of the room can hear them. This phenomena was used by John Quincy Adams to eavesdrop.

This phenomena is also recreated in St. Paul's Cathedral in London, and in Grand Central Terminal, in front of Oysters Bar & Grill
