There is a high correlation between large infective populations and the countries overall personal income. Most African countries are impoverished. Similarly (and unfortunately) there is a high volume of people in these areas that do not practice safer sex alternatives OR do not have access to safe sex alternatives like condoms, education and services.

∙ 8y agoThe main causes are poor education coupled with lack of adequate healthcare. It's no good teaching a nation about safe sex - without giving them the means to practice what they've been taught. Therefore they continue to put themselves at risk.
