I'm kidding, Texans! Ultimately, the answer is that it's that big because it is. There's no law regarding the size of a state (Texas isn't even the biggest, it's the second largest, after Alaska... in fact, if Alaska were divided into two equal halves, Texas would then be the third largest state).
