White smoke or white/grey smoke coming out of the tail pipe usually indicates a head gasket problem. Particularly if there is fluid coming out of the exhaust which will also cause your car to overheat because water is getting from your block into your motor... Black smoke usually indicates iol burning such as you rings are bad etc.... Answer It can also be an egr problem like leaking egr cooler just depends on the engine. but water entering the combustion chamber is the main reason.
