take apart the dash, and reset it to park when the car is in park.
Ummmm, the shift cable broke or came off the lever under the dash?
If it is stuck in park it is most likely the brake lock switch on most cars there's a cable and switch at the shifter from the brake pedal when you push on the brake pedal the switch pulls out and unlocks the shifter so you can shift the car out of park. Some cars have a little slot by the shifter where you can insert a key to unlock the shifter.
The neutral switch on a 1965 Chevy Impala is located under the transmission shifter. It detects when the vehicle is in park or neutral and allows the engine to be started.
sounds like you need to adjust your shifter linkage
first thing, check your brake lamps,if the lower brake lamps do not work the car will not come out of park because of a safety feature that requires you to press the brake pedal to shift out of park. the stop lamps provide the power to release the shifter,if this is the case you just need to fix your brak lamps, most vehicle have a featue to enable you to release shifter in emergencies.try turning the key to unlock without turning the dash lamps on then shift to nuetral and start the vehicle,if this doesnt work there should be a plugged off slot by the shifter that you can insert a key to release it
Insert key. Turn to ACC. Push brake. Push button on shifter. Move shifter out of park. It helps if park lock cable is not broken, and if vehicle is not on an incline.
There is aproblem with the shifter check with your local Chevy dealership for there may be a recall on this problem
If you cannot move the shifter out of the park position then you have a problem with the shifter cable or the brake safety lock. If you can move the shifter to the drive position, and it doesnt go in gear then you are a few quarts low on transmission fluid
I have a 1992 Chevy berretta 3.1 V6 and when it is in park and reverse and neutral it sounds like there is a grinding noise right below the shifter I know that the linkage needs adjusting any ideas
In my experience , my villager would not shift from park to anything. Found a T20 or T25 torx screw under dash by steering column to be really loose on shifter linkage. Works great now!
transmission shift bolt loose try pushing gear shifter all the way back to park
