it will be your valve lifters common problem for the Mazda 626 engine when they start to get up in the milage
t guess is either the valves or the crank bearings are getting wore.
Most likely it's your valves in need of adjustment.
Check the oil. Failed lifters/rocker arms would not be uncommon.
Possible lifters that are bad that could explain your ticking noise. It should cost you nothing by stopping by an Auto repair shop and have them listen to your engine.
Its possible that this ticking sound is caused from driving fast for prolong periods. Its possible that its not the engine that is making the sound, but the exhaust system somewhere. I hear a ticking sound if I drive over 140KMh for long periods. It always stops once the car cools. I hopes this helps.
Ticking is not that that big of a deal to require a new engine. If your engine is knocking, it is a big deal. Make sure your car is ticking first. Ticking is usually caused by the valvetrain of the engine when it is not properly lubricated. As the engine increases oil pressure the oil makes its way into the valvetrain and the sound should go away. If it goes away when the engine is warm, it's likely ticking. If it is ticking, it sounds like you might be low on oil. Add a half quart see if it goes away. Then check your dipstick to make sure your are in the "safe zone." On some cars, you need to go above the "full" mark (ONLY A LITTLE, at most 1 quart over, which is about the same as the distance from full to low marks on the dipstick). It may need more oil, but use judgment from there. Hope that helped. I do not think it is a big deal, if your engine makes ticking noise. I drive my subaru seit 7 years with such kind of noise and never had any problems.. Do not replace engine for such small thing, most likely is your hyd.lifter a bit noisy. So what :)) Good luck.
It is probably the lifters. I suggest using an engine flush and I have had luck with GUNK. Follow the directions on the can. You may have to do it every 30000 miles . I found that if I put a non Mitsubishi oil filter on my pu would start making that ticking sound
if is a fast(constant) ticking sound which increases in speed as you accelerate then that sound most likely will be your lifters. they're not getting proper lubrication.perhaps you should either check and make sure your oil is not low and or concider using a thicker oil. 10/40.
Usually it's the lifters in the engine making that noise until they become fully pressurized with oil, then they stop ticking, like on the 3 liter caravans.
Have valves adjusted.
Try having the throttle body cleaned.
battery is dead
