Best Answer

It is only deadly if ingested. The skin will stop alpha radiation. It does not have much penetrating power. When inside the body it can cause cellular damage which can lead to cancer.

What is the weakest type of radiation?

Gamma radiation is the strongest, followed by beta, followed by alpha. So, in answer to your question; alpha is the weakest type of radiation :)

Are alpha radiation dangerous?

Any electromagnetic radiation can be dangerous. Alpha waves are higher on the radiation scale than x-rays so yes, they are dangerous.

How does magnetism effect alpha radiation?

Alpha radiation is positively charged, so a magnetic field will deflect it

What use is alpha radiation?

It is used in smoke detectors as it cannot travel far in air. Alpha radiation is emitted and as long as the detector in the device is receiving the alpha radiation, then no smoke is present. When smoke particles are present, they interrupt the radiation, and so the detector doesn't pick up the radiation, causing the alarm to go off.

What absorbs alpha radiation?

Pretty much anything will. A couple of sheets of paper would do it. Alpha radiation is big and bulky compared to other types of radiation. So it can't penetrate objects very far.

Why do you use alpha radiation?

we use alpha radiation to know whether smoke has been let off in the school at home so if it has we can run out without being inflicted with pain

What type of radiation has the least ability to penetrate matter?

The Least penetrating form of radiation is Alpha as it only travels 10cm in air and is stopped by paper. Alpha is also the most ionising, Beta is less ionising still and Gamma is the least ionising as photons carry no charge so they have less effect.

Why is alpha radiation more dangerous than beta rediation when the source of the radiation is inside the body?

Alpha radiation cannot get pass through our body as it cannot penetrate through things. Beta can penetrate through things better than alpha. So if alpha is inside our body then it cannot get outside our body and therefore it becomes dangerous.

Why is gamma radiation deadly?

Gamma radiation is deadly because it causes cancer. But it be used to kill cancerous cells as well. So, gamma is bad, but has it's useful properties too!

Why is gamma radiation best for looking inside steel structures rather than alpha or beta?

Gamma radiation is best because it is it is very penetrative so therefor is absorbed by the steel whereas beta and alpha radiation aren't penetrative enough so would be stopped by the steel structure.

Can human with using radiation morph into winged beings?

Radiation is lethal to Humans, So no.

What is Alpha radiation stopped by?

Alpha particles are the strongest of the three known types of radiation (alpha, beta, & gamma). Although the strongest, the alpha particles are the least penetrating. They do not tend to penetrate any substance.A well-known example is your skin. Alpha particles do not penetrate your skin barrier. However, alpha particles energy is high and is a cause of skin cancer and genetic mutations.
