AnswerPurple Halobacterium evolved before chlorophyll-containing organisms.
The photosynthetic Halobacterium absorbed green light so other organisms
possibly evolved chlorophyll to absorb nongreen wavelengths and fill an
ecological niche. Also it is believed that possibly black would just absorb
all forms of light including ones that could be harmful to the plant.
