The date of Easter is based on when Passover begins because, as it was stated in The Bible, Jesus was celebrating Passover with his disciples when he was taken to be tried by Pilate. So, based on that, Easter takes place on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the first day of spring. Then Ash Wednesday takes place 40 days before that. The forty days is significant because when Jesus began his work, he spent forty days in the desert where he was tested by the Devil.
