Ecdysis is when an arthropod molts its exoskeleton. Molting is necessary. The arthropod exoskeleton is inflexible, so, for it to grow larger, arthropods must molt.
Ecdysis is essential because it facilitates growth. Because the arthropod exoskeleton is inelastic, it would not be possible to increase in size without it.
The importance of ecdysis is relevant to invertebrates. It is essential for the process of growth in reptiles. This is because the exoskeleton is not flexible and does not move.
The process of shedding skin in insects is Ecdysis.
Earthworms in the class oligochaeta, which is in the phylum annelida. Ecdysis occurs in the phylum arthropoda. My guess is that earthworms' cuticles undergo a process closer to our skin's than ecdysis.
Molting is the process of secreting new cuticle. It ends into ecdysis i.e. separating new and old cuticle and shedding old cuticle. It has 3 phases preparatory, ecdysis and post ecdysis. This process ends by eclosion i.e. final emergence out of old cuticle.[Ref: insects]
Arthropods molt (moult) in a process called ecdysis. It is necessary for growth because of the inflexibility of the exoskeleton. The old shell remnants are called exuviae. Note that the term 'anthropod' should not be confused with 'arthropod'; anthropods are humans or humanoids and do not moult in the canonic sense.
Since the external covering (exoskeleton) is inflexible, it's necessary for arthropods to periodically shed it (moult) in order to grow, a process called ecdysis.
It is called Ecdysis or Molting.
Husk - Exuvia - Moult - Ecdysis .
During ecdysis the blood circulation is effected due it there may be a blockage between the arteries and veins and it also causes the death of the patient.
an arthropod sheds it old exoskeleton when it has grown to a point where it needs a larger exoskeleton. This process is called ecdysis.
I thik it is the shedding of skin undergo by snakes and other reptiles.
Moulting or ecdysis
The technical term is 'sloughing' - the scientific term is 'ecdysis'
