Because we're a 'soft touch' ! We'll give state benefits to just about anyone who comes here - whether they've paid into the benefit system or not ! That's why so many people try to get into the UK every year - often travelling thousands of miles to get here (usually hidden in the back of a truck !). It's high-time the rules were changed so immigrants have to work for their benefits !

Take the case of the Afghans... The vast majority of illegal immigrants to the UK come from the Afghan region. Between Afghanistan and the UK, there are Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy & France. The reason they refuse to settle in any of those countries - is because those countries have no welfare system ! Consequently, there is a massive 'refugee' camp in France with tens of thousands of people waiting for their chance to sneak across the channel to the UK !

Don't get me wrong - I'm quite happy for immigrants to come to the UK provided they came here legally - through the legitimate Immigration process. So long as they can make a worthwhile contribution to the UK economy - by working legally for a living (instead of sponging off the state), I'm quite happy to accept these people. It's those who sneakacross the channel for the sole purpose of milkingour benefits system that I've paid into all my life - that I have no sympathy for !

Maybe if France did more to send them back to their homeland, they wouldn't be our problem ! Still - France has always been a wimp when it comes to illegal immigrants !
