What goes into a blast furnace?

Sinter, which is a mixture of iron ore, coke and limestone, and a blast of hot air. Externally to the furnace, iron ore, coke and limestone are mixed together Intimate mixing ensures that the reactants are as close as possible to each other. This is loaded into the top of the blast furnace. A blast of hot air ( ~ 1100 oC) is sent in at the bottom of the furnace, through tuyeres. The oxygen (air) is also one of the reactants.
