Things tend to decompose in a warm and moist environment. Mummification/fossilization typically happens in either very cold climates, very dry climates, or both. Since the rain forest is both warm and damp, decomposition typically happens very quickly.

How the fossil record indicates a long history of changing life forms.?

The fossil record shows that different species have evolved over time. The fossil record also provides evidence of how a specific organism evolved from earlier species. It also shows which organisms lived during the same time period, which have a common ancestor, and which have become extinct.

Why would a fossil be found in a desert environment?

First of all the animal that the fossil is from was going to a different location and died there, so it would still be there. Also the desert 50 million years ago could have been a forest where many different organisms live.
