My 1991 did the same thing. When the engine is cold unplug the torque converter lock up connector at the transmission bellhouse. It sounds like the lock up torque converter swith won't unlock when it gets hot(when driving and coming to a stop it feels like you are stoping a car with a manual transmission with out pushing in the clutch pedal).Once I unpluged this on my van the engine's rpm's are a little higher and I get about 1 mpg less, but it makes it driveable.
Follow the top radiator hose down to the engine. It is in the water outlet.
Most likely it is low on freon and the compressor is cycling on and off.
Push the odometer trip reset till you get to "oil" then press and hold down till it reads "100"
On my 99 Silhouette, you open the hatch door, there is a half, to 3/4 circle that the tool from the jack fits in. Turn it, and the tire will come down. Depending on where you live, it might be rusty and sticky, so it won't want to come down very easy.

your car stalls when u gear down because you geared down too much. your car stalls when u gear down because you geared down too much.
Your erg valve is installed upside down and backwards. The same thing happend to me.
your up down switch is most likely bad
I have a 1995 Silhouette. If you're standing in front of your van, facing it, the oil filter is located at the left rear of the engine. I can best reach mine by lying down with by head at the rear of the passenger side front tire. Looking through the frame, you should be able to see it. It's a little tricky to reach, but not too bad. Hope this helps. JK
Whenever any vehicle stalls while driving it should be seen by a mechanic soon. It can be the a issues with the computer, ignition, or fuel.
Could be caused by bad lifter, bad pushrod, bad rocker arm, bent valve, or if the sound is heard deep down, it might be worse. Either way, the valve covers need to come off for inspection.
