Because the people who issue peer pressure have lots of shallow, fake friends who seem intimidating. But really, those people will end up on the corner twirling subway signs for a living in the end. Just remember that, and someday you'll be sitting in a fortune 100 company. :) And really, peer pressure is stupid. These people are so insecure they can't just be normal, they have to make everyone else feel insecure as well.

Because people are social animals and we need acceptance by the larger group. We resist this pressure at our own risk. For some it is easy, others not so much so, but if it is easy or not one should always try to be aware of it because saying no to peer pressure all the time will result in having no peers.
