The fundamental goal of political parties in the political process is mainly to influence policy. Influencing policy can be done by electing people to office and gaining control of the government.
They all influence thousands or millions of people.
They are the government, by their nature they control policy of the government in power.
Interest group try to influence political parties because leaders of interest groups know that political parties play a central role in selecting those people who make public policy decisions.
Candidate do not want to change what the public wants, but instead change their policy around the public opinion. Public opinion and the political parties enter a phase of consolidation and continuity between periods of rapid change.
Influence on public opinion can be limited by how informed voters are. Even though what the people think is heard, officials do not take it as a final decision. As a nation we trust elected officials to make the right choice. Americans can also have opinions that are against the truths of an issue. For example, environmentalists pay closer attention to laws that affect our environment.

When the citizens views, measured either by elections or opinion polls is made clear, it will effect policy makers. The media can influence both the government and the public as well. The fact is that in modern nations, there are so many issues at stake, what is or what is not important is often lost in the numerous events and issues all going on at the same time.
