Because the Cell Must Be Selectively Reactive.
If the Cell was not selectively permeable it it would allowed Virus's in, and they could potentially lose essential nutrients because everything would flow in and out of the cell and destroy it
The cell needs to control what enters and leaves. It needs to keep somethings in and other things out. However, only the Selectively cells can enter and go out of the cell! This is why the selectively permeable membrane is permeable!
A cell membrane (the outer casing or inner casing in a plant cell) is selectively permeable because some materials can pass freely through the cell membrane while others cannot.
it´s selectively permeable because some substances can pass across the membrane and others cannot, and it´s always trying to keep the proper amount of water and nutrients inside and outside the cell.
Selective permeability refers to the ability of a membrane to only allow certain objects or items in or out of the cell. Cells must be selectively permeable so that the contents of the cell don't leak out.
It is important for the membrane to be selectively permeable for protection. It prevents harmful substances from entering the cell and damaging it.
to allow water molecules in and leave waste out or to leave bigger molecules such as sugar out
Such a membrane is said to be selectively permeable or semi-permeable.
selectively permeable
The cell membrane is the thing that surrounds the cell. The cell membrane contains proteins that allow active transport of molecules in and out of the cell.
Animal cells lack rigid cell wall. When an animal cell is placed in a solution with high water potential, the wanter enters the cell as cell membrane is freely permeable to water. As a result of continuously increasing water potential inside the cell, Cell membrane bursts and the cell is said to be lysed.
The plasma membrane surrounding animal cells is where the exchange of substances inside and outside of cells takes place. Some substances need to move from the extracellular fluid outside cells to the inside of the cell, and some substances need to move from the inside of the cell to the extracellular fluid. Some of the proteins that are stuck in the plasma membrane help to form openings (channels) in the membrane. Through these channels, some substances such as hormones or ions are allowed to pass through. They either are "recognized" by a receptor (a protein molecule) within the cell membrane, or they attach to a carrier molecule, which is allowed through the channels. Because the plasma membrane is choosy about what substances can pass through it, it is said to be selectively permeable.
Such a membrane is said to be selectively permeable or semi-permeable.
A membrane that lets some substances pass through but not others is known as a semipermeable membrane. Other terms that describe this type of membrane are: selectively permeable, partially permeable, or differentially permeable.
Semipermeable or selectively permeable.

The cell's membrane is "selectively permeable" because the cell allows some materials to enter or leave.I'm in grade eight. This is what my Science textbook says:"Because the cell membrane allows certain substances to enter or leave, but not others, it is said to be selectively permeable."
it allows only types of molecules to pass through

Selectively permeable means that only certain substances are able pass through the cell membrane.A selectively permeable membrane is a membrane that only can be permeated by selective things, in other words a surface that lets some molecules in but not others. Like a cell membrane will let water diffuse into it :)
It is very selective about what it allows to pass through.
All cells in all living organisms have a version of a nuclear membrane. The nuclear membrane keeps everything inside the cell and harmful things out. Its like our skin, our skin keeps our organs inside and most harmful things out. Plant cells however have cell walls not membrane, but it is the same concept
