The reason for creating a backup of Drive C, or any other drive, is to have the data available in case the drive crashes and cannot be restored. If you store your backup on the same drive, it will not be available if the drive fails.

It is like keeping a list of your credit card numbers in your wallet with the credit cards. If the wallet is stolen, you won't have the list either.

Why is it important to not store a backup of drive C on another partition on the same hard drive?

If you store your backup of your C:\ drive (which is usually where all your files, photos, etc are stored) on another (logical) partition on the same physical drive (C:\) and this is where you store your backup, if the drive should fail you would lose both the original files AND the backup as well. This is because they both reside on the SAME physical drive. Buy an inexpensive thumb drive or external hard drive and store your backups there. This way is the C:\ drive fails, you still have your backup files (on the external or flash (thumb) drive).

Why is it important to not store a back up of drive c on another partition on the same hard drive?

Because a physical failure of the hard drive would wipe out the backup. 2.When a Hard drive crashes, most likely all partitions go down and you will have lost your data and your backup. Back up to another media and, for extra safety, store it at an off-site location.

Backing up files means making copies of important files so you don't lose all of your work when something goes wrong (power outage, hard drive failure, stolen computer, etc.) If you have never lost any important information and feel like you don't need to backup your files, you are in for a rude awakening when it eventually happens.
