Tighten them too loose and they may come off. Tighten them too tight and you may warp the brake rotor. For those reasons it is critical to torque them correctly.
On a 2000 Lincoln Town Car : ( there are 5 lug nuts per wheel , total of 20 lug nuts )
5 lug nuts is common in 3/4" size.
Loosen the lug nuts counterclockwise. Next, jack up car at the jack points (there are covers below the rocker panels). Jack up car, unloosen all the lug nuts. Remove wheel, replace wheel. Tighten lug nuts until they are seated against the rim. Lower car. Tighten lug nuts crosswise. Next stop, have the lug nuts torqued down.
KIA lug nuts are the same as other lug nuts on other car makes. To remove or tighten them, use a standard lug nut wrench or the one found in the trunk of your KIA.

loosen the lug nuts with a 19mm wrench. jack up the car. remove the tire. put a new one on. put the lug nuts back on tight enough. lower the car. tighten lug nuts to 90 ft-lbs
To change the a wheel assembly on a car: 1. Loosen the lug nuts. 2. Raise the car as required and put on a stand. 3. Finish taking off the lug nuts. 4. Remove the wheel and put the replacement wheel in place. 5. Put the lug nuts back on, remove the stand and lower the car. 6. Tighten the lug nuts.
That car may have locking lug nuts if they are the factory originals. You would need the "key" for the lug nuts in order to remove them.
