There are several reasons for the lack of a cure for the common cold. First, the common cold is caused by a group of viruses called rhinoviruses. These viruses mutate rapidly, causing great difficulty in developing an effective therapy for them. Second, the infection itself is typically self-limiting - a health adult will get over the infection within a few days to a week.
The flu is caused by a virus and viruses are notorious for rapid evolution and mutations to new strains. Every year there are usually at least three different strains of influenza (flu) and the vaccinations are targeted for those expected strains. As the virus is always changing, however, one year's vaccination is often useless against the next year's strain. But if the virus mutation is minimal, the prior vaccinations can offer some protection or at least create fewer and milder symptoms if you do get it.
Because the cold always develops a new strand that we don't have a vaccine for yet.
There's so many viruses that cause the common cold and they change fast.
It would be hard to make a vaccine that would work, and it would only work on a few out of 1000s of viruses
cause it keeps changing.
Viruses! The common cold, the flu. Always changing before we can find one cure.
No scientist has been able to so far, but should you try and succeed, you will surely be well rewarded! For information about treating a cold, see the related questions.
