In some places it might be hard but where i live it's not. As long as you have a good background and can pass the written and physical test you can become a police officer in my town, without competition.
Answer
If I wanted to be a Policeman or Policewoman then I'd be taking training for that job because I have a burning desire to help people in distress. I'd want to perhaps become a member of a Drug Squad with time and training under my belt or perhaps another aspect of Police Work interests me. It's no easy job being a cop. The pay is high but so is the divorce rate as you work long shifts, maybe in the begining you start off not drinking heavily, but most cops have drinking and or drug problems because of what they see while on the job. It is probably the least thankful job of all jobs. I think that the worst aspect of being a Police Officer is that when you leave home, it just might be the last time you see your wife and kids beause this is probably one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Personally I wouldn't want the job of being a Policeman, it is you who asked the question, but if that's what you want to do in life. Good luck.

I don't know how many times in the last month that I have answered this exact question with the same answer I'm going to give you. I, me the person who is writing this, does NOT want to become a Police Officer, but if you do, I'd research the job in question and when your research is finished, then perhaps you will know if you want to be a cop or not.
Answer:
There are a number of reasons one might want to become a police officer. The intrinsic reason is a desire to protect and serve a community. Some like the adrenaline pump that comes from a fast action job. Others want to get into law enforcement because they want to become a detective or involved in a specialty, such as forensics. There are so many areas of law enforcement that are exciting and interesting. It isn't just the beat cop you see in your neighborhood. You may end up in the FBI or CIA or some other government agency. Some want to become a body guard for a famous person. Before deciding anything about becoming a cop, talk to one, or more. They will give you a better picture of what it is all about.

Added: There are physical, medical, mental, educational and mandatory background exams and personal interviews which you must successfully complete to even be considered eligible. THEN, you must successfully complete mandatory police "academy" training and (usually) a one year probationary period before you are considered fully certified.
It is harder than many jobs. You have to pass physical and psychological profiles. You also need to earn the proper education and certifications. You will need to qualify in weapons and driving training as well. In many cities, you are now also required to have a two year degree.
Chance really has nothing to do with it, it essentially all depends if you work hard enough.

I recently got caught with weed and they gave me a court date. As of my understanding it was just a misdemeanor. Ive always wanted to become a police officer and i know it will hurt my chances but iv'e read elsewhere that you can still get in. So, do i have a chance?

If you are a police officer you would not need to ask. A police officer doing his duty will treat another police officer as any member of the public (if they are out of uniform and off duty).
In France, it is respectful to address a police officer as "Monsieur" (Sir) or "Madame" (Ma'am). You can also use the term "Agent" followed by their rank if known, such as "Agent" or "Commissaire" (Commissioner). It is important to remain polite and respectful when addressing a French police officer.
