because they are shock so it gets a little awkward between you and the girl they need some time to think and decide to like you back or still be friends

take it from a dude who's said it to a lot of girls over the years, telling a girl you like her is a big step. sometimes the best thing to do is to ask her out on a date (as a friend) and ease into the idea of a possible relationship. if you rush in too fast, you're likely to scare her off. Learn from my mistakes.
