Every version of The Bible is a collection of holy books written by different human beings at different points in history and in different places and conditions. Like any group of human beings, they don't always agree with one another.

Different times, different social conditions, different needs and requirements, different points of view, and different interpretations of what has come before can all lead to shifts in religious dogma, or any other social influence.

This change has always been the norm, and all human religions continue to change and be reinterpreted to this day, contradicting their prior forms as current needs and views demand.

The numerous contradictions in any book of scripture simply represent the contrast between these differing conditions, as felt by people who were seeking answers to their spiritual needs and questions.

= Answer = The original Hebrew verse is somewhat Ironic;

it should be read something like this:

for i have not talked with your ancestors about matters of sacrifices the day I delivered them from Egypt.....

so we can conclude - it tries to emphasize ironically a higher demand or purpose than sacrifices. it doesn't imply sacrifices are wrong but suggest (according to the context of Jeremiah) that devotion to god has more important or crucial manifestations.

sort of speak sacrifices became empty gestures.

Why did God tell Jeremiah to go down to the potter's house?

God told Jeremiah to go down to the potter's house to see how a potter works with clay, shaping it into a vessel. This imagery was used to illustrate God's sovereignty over His people, showing that just as a potter can reshape and mold clay, God can shape and mold His people according to His will.

What does Jeremiah 7 mean?

Jeremiah 7:22-24: "For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward."These are not the words modern believers would expect of a God who knew himself to the the only god in existence. God was saying that if the Israelites obeyed him, he would become their own God, to the exclusion of all other people on earth. Jeremiah says that the Israelites refused to accept this offer.

Why don't Christians sacrifice?

Under the "Old Covenant" (Old Testament) The Jews offered animal sacrifices, But when Jesus Christ came into the world and was crucified on the cross of Calvary, and was buried, and was risen the third day, He ushered in the "New Covenant" (See Jeremiah 31:31). The church began fifty days (Pentecost) after the Passover when Jesus was crucified. The animal sacrifices stopped for the people who had accepted Jesus as their Savior. In the Book of Romans, 12:1, Paul tells us that we are to offer or present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy, acceptable to God. What is meant by this is that Christians are to live holy lives and prepare themselves and be ready to serve God wherever and whenever He calls on them for service. That is our sacrifice for God. We are to serve Him.

How does Jeremiah respond to the idolatrous practices of the Israelites?

A:Unlike some of the later prophets, Jeremiah maintained the distinction between Israel and Judah. After a failed attempt on the life of Gedaliah, installed by Babylon as governor of Judah, Jeremiah fled to Egypt. Here he found Jews worshipping 'other gods' and the 'Queen of Heaven', possibly Astarte or Asherah. Jeremiah 44:3 says that they served other gods whom their fathers had not known, although scholars have established that the Israelites and Judahites had been polytheistic during the earlier pre-Exilic period.Jeremiah was incensed and spoke of the wrath of God against the people he met in Egypt. He told them that just as they had forsaken God, so would God forsake them, causing them to be consumed by the sword and by famine.
